Madhav Chavan, the founder of the education charity Pratham, has won the fourth World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) prize in the Qatari capital Doha. An Ashoka Fellow and renowned social entrepreneur he receives a USD$500,000 prize in acknowledgement of his achievements.
Pratham was founded in 1994 to serve the city of Mumbai with the mission to ensure “Every Child in School and Learning Well ”, on the belief that every child has the right to education regardless of their economic or social situation.
Today Pratham is active in 17 of India’s 28 states and has overseas chapters across the world. it is the largest non governmental organisation working to provide quality education to underprivileged children in India.
